Dental Sealants in Ball Ground, GA

A simple, painless protective coating applied to the chewing surfaces of molars — one of the most effective preventive treatments in dentistry, especially for children and teens.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Sealant application, step by step.

1

Cleaning

The teeth to be sealed are thoroughly cleaned to remove any plaque or debris from the grooves and fissures of the chewing surface.

2

Surface Preparation

An acidic solution is applied briefly to roughen the enamel surface, helping the sealant bond securely to the tooth.

3

Sealant Application

The liquid sealant is painted onto the chewing surface and flows into the grooves and pits of the tooth.

4

Curing

A curing light hardens the sealant in seconds. The whole process takes only a few minutes per tooth and is completely painless.

What are dental sealants?

Dental sealants are thin plastic coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth — the molars and premolars — where decay most commonly develops. The deep grooves and pits of these teeth are difficult to clean thoroughly with a toothbrush, and food and bacteria can become trapped there even with excellent oral hygiene.

Sealants fill in these grooves, creating a smooth surface that is easy to clean and resistant to decay. They are quick, painless, and highly effective — reducing the risk of decay in treated teeth by up to 80%.

Who should get sealants?

Sealants are most commonly recommended for children and teenagers — ideally as soon as the permanent molars erupt, typically between ages 6 and 14. Applying sealants during these cavity-prone years provides significant protection during the period when good oral hygiene habits are still being established.

Adults can also benefit from sealants if their molars are free of fillings and decay. We evaluate each patient individually and recommend sealants when we believe the preventive benefit outweighs the cost.

How long do sealants last?

Sealants can protect teeth for up to 10 years with proper care. We check the condition of existing sealants at every routine appointment and reapply them as needed if they show signs of chipping or wear. They are a remarkably cost-effective investment in long-term dental health — preventing cavities that would otherwise require fillings or more extensive treatment.

Prevent cavities before they start.

Sealants are one of the simplest and most cost-effective investments in your child's — or your own — long-term oral health.
